Do I REALLY need Medical Insurance???

Drew, do I REALLY need medical insurance?  I mean, what’s the big deal???  I am young, healthy and in excellent shape..  I’m Superman/Wonder Woman!!!

I can speak from experience on this.  As a child, I was involved in a hit and run accident.  Whereas, I was the child on the sidewalk where a driver going a bit too fast went into me.  Luckily, for me, I was wearing a helmet.  If I wasn’t, then I would either be not here or have brain damage.  Fortunately (or unfortunately), I was left with just spinal cord damage.  While we had excellent medical coverage as my parents were employed by the City of New York, as far as the aftermath, not so good.  As I got older, more and more spinal cord issues arose.  Countless tests and trials which many were out of pocket expenses.  Again, since we had out of pocket/network coverage most was covered.  Nonetheless, pain is associated with everyday life.  Even now, I have to have a high end medical plan to cover the various tests, medical injections and meds that help me lead a somewhat average life.

Many people in my generation opt for no coverage or as little coverage as possible in order to save $$$.  I cannot tell you how dangerous this is.  Should something like what happened to me happen to anyone else with no coverage (happens all the time by the way), the initial expense would be tens of thousands of dollars.  I know one would say, but I have a high deductible health care plan.  Well, that first $6500.00 or whatever your max out of pocket would be due BEFORE any insurance kicks in.  What happens if you do not have insurance and you are not near open enrollment?  Well, guess what, you’re sh*t out of luck.  This is why I would recommend to all to have at least a silver health insurance plan.  It’s so important these days to have insurance.  Going without it is financial suicide…

People, get medical insurance!!
